Yesterday we left Chicago to head for Cleveland and at 420 miles is a long road day. Pretty much on Highways all day so not much to see. Some country side but mostly just highway. Opted not to use toll roads which added a few miles to our day but not overly so.
As you can see highways are pretty much the same the world over. One thing that impressed Jim was how well the navigator (Nav Sat) operated. Didn't miss a beat and took us where we wanted to go.
Our Avis car is a black Camry and has only 9000 miles on the clock. Looks quite stylish. Its a four cylinder model with economy settings and rides very well. Jim is quite happy to have a Camry though I haven't seen many others on the road, none in fact.
There seems to be a mixed groups of makes with some brands we didn't recognise and was quite unfamilar to both of us. Looks like there's quite a Korean influence with their cars rather than Japanese. Saw a few fords, pontiacs and GM's. They drive a lot of SVU's and 4 wheel drives.
Got to drive on the wrong side of the road. Did a bit of driving around a small industrial area before braving the main roads to get the hang of it. Quite an odd experience to be honest. The left turns across traffic isn't the problem that I thought it would be, its using the centre mirror and pulling up to a Kerb that is hard. Having to judge the angle from the left side will take some time. I will say that the American drivers are very curteious and patient. No one pushes, tailgates or drives close. They sit in the middle lane and faster cars pass on the left lane. Interestingly cars move to the middle lane when cars enter the freeway into the right lane as they must do by law. Anyway we arrived safely at Cleveland about 5pm. Hotel is a Hilton and so far is good.
Today we will walk around the town looking for a few things. Tonight's game starts at 7.05 at Progressive field which is just a couple minutes walk from the hotel.
